ON THE RANK OF A CERTAIN SET OF EQUATIONS,

Abstract

There is a certain well-known set of 6n2 linear equations in n4 unknowns whose nonnegative integral solutions are in one-to-one correspondence with pairs of orthogonal n-th order Latin squares. It is shown that the rank of this system is 6n2 - 8n + 3. (Author)
