THE EFFECT OF PROPELLER CAVITATION ON THRUST DEDUCTION, A THEORETICAL EXAMINATION,

Abstract

A simple, idealized, theoretical model is used to examine the effect of propeller cavitation on thrust deduction. This study has yielded not only a qualitative understanding of how the presence of cavitation results in a decrease in thrust deduction, but also a rough quantitative estimate of the conditions that result in zero thrust deduction. The findings verify statements made in a recently published Soviet Union report. (Author)
