ELECTROMECHANICAL WAVES ON ROTATING ELECTRON BEAMS.

Abstract

A polarization-variable analysis is used to obtain the natural waves or modes on an electron beam having d-c rotation. The use of polarization variables results in both a wave solution and a physical description of electron motion. Propagation characteristics and electron beam configurations for the natural modes are given. A smallsignal power theorem is used to develop the kinetic power characteristics of the natural modes. It is shown that there are fast waves which are negative power carriers. An approximate analysis of space-charge waves on a beam with d-c rotation is given. (Author)
