PRELIMINARY EXPERIMENTS IN CUMULUS MODELING WITH AN ANALOG TO THE RELEASE OF LATENT HEAT OF CONDENSATION.

Abstract

Experiments were performed in modeling of cumuli in which the upward buoyancy is produced by a chemical reaction between acid and base solutions. The method of production of buoyancy is analogous to the release of latent heat of condensation in real cumuli. The experimental convection was found to have a Reynolds number about the same as in small cumuli but a Froude number about one order of magnitude larger than in real cumuli. (Author)
