HIGH-POWER X-BAND GENERATOR.

Abstract

The purpose of this program is to develop a klystron amplifier operating at 8 kMc and delivering one megawatt of CW power. A long pulse tube was tested to 60 kilowatts of average power at which point catastrophic window failure occurred. A second long-pulse tube with a new window design was operated successfully for several hours at more than 200 kilowatts average and 500 kilowatts peak power output. A short pulse using extendedinteraction input and penultimate cavities was built. Test results are presented. Further theoretical analysis of some large signal aspects of the excitation of extendedinteraction cavities is presented. (Author)
