Abstract

Works on the visual colorimetry of the moon, performed in recent times, have shown both the high accuracy and the great efficiency of this method of investigating the optical features of the outer cover of the lunar surface. A comparison of the determinations of the color of a great quantity of sections of the lunar surface prove that the color of the lunar surface is very specific. Together with data concerning brightness, this has led to the conclusion that with respect to the characteristics of its reflecting capabilities, the matter of the cover of the lunar surface has no analogs either among terrestrial rocks or among meteorites. In this article new data on the visual colorimetry of the moon, based on observations and measurements performed primarily in 1954, are given. Certain explanations are also made relative to the application of the colorimetric method in the matter of investigating the reflecting capability in general.
