THE TMB TORSIONMETER SHAFT SYSTEM,

Abstract

The design and development of a unique torquemeasuring system for use during full-scale tests of naval vessels is described. The system consists of a 6-ft section of shafting, especially designed for use with a new torsionmeter, and a special calibration stand for statically load-calibrating the torsionmeter shaft with the torsionmeter. Carefully planned calibration techniques integrate these components into a highly accurate torque-measuring system that has been adopted by the Bureau of Ships for inclusion in new naval vessels.
