A MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR INPUT-OUTPUT DEVICES II.

Abstract

The technical notion of diagram (as employed by the category-theorists) is used to define the concept of abstract block diagram. The bulk of the report is concerned with the study of the collection 'D' of block diagrams whose input/output functions belong to a preassigned function algebra. It is shown that 'D' may be given the structure of substitution algebra by appropriate definitions of evaluation, substitution and contraction operators. In addition, a brief survey is made of the current literature concerning general input/ output systems.
