TRANSVERSE FOCAL REGION OF A SPHERICAL REFLECTOR. PART 2: POLARIZATION.

Abstract

The polarization of the reflection of a uniform plane wave incident on a spherical reflector is analyzed using the current distribution method for scattered fields. It is seen that the effective current, the component radiating in the direction of the circle of least confusion, has essentially the same polarization as the specularly reflected fields. Formulas for the current distribution on the reflector and the effective current are derived in several ways. The effective current is graphed and contour plots given. Formulas for the fields reflected from the tangent plane are derived in terms of direction cosines. These formulas are discussed and contour plots of the field components are given. (Author)
