DISTORTION INTRODUCED INTO FREQUENCY MODULATION BY ARBITRARILY LIMITING THE TRANSMISSION BANDWIDTH.

Abstract

The distoriton introduced by arbitrarily limiting the transmission bandwidth of an FM wave can be obtained by solving the mathematical expression derived, verified, and illustrated in this thesis. Although the method explained will determine distortion of an FM wave modulated by the sum of any number of sinusoidal signals, the digital com puter solution time becomes excessive when more than ten modulating signals are applied. Solutions graphically illustrated include modulating signals of; single sinusoids with modulating indices varying from 0.3 to 50.0, two through six non-harmonic sinusoids, and triangular pulse represented by the first six terms of its Fourier series.
