FLUID SLOSHING IN TANKS OF ARBITRARY SHAPE,

Abstract

It is the purpose of the analysis presented in this memorandum to develop a mathematical model for the response of tanks of arbitrary shape. The undertermined coefficients of this model may be determined in many cases by numerical means and in all cases by a limited number of experimental measurements. The results are similar in form to the results of a general analysis of bending. The form of the differential equations for the dynamic effects of bending can be specified to within a number of undetermined coefficients. These coefficients may be evaluated by solution of well-specified boundary value problems or by direct measurement. (Author)
