CIRCULARLY POLARIZED DUAL FREQUENCY FAN BEAM ARRAY AND HEMISPHERICAL COVERAGE ANTENNAS FOR SATELLITE TRACKING.

Abstract

This report contains a description of the work accomplished in connection with the design of two types of satellite tracking antennas, a fixed antenna with hemi spherical coverage and left circular polarization, and a preset fan beam array with left circular polarization. The work done included a study of some of the various parameters affecting the shape of the pattern of a turnstile above a ground plane, the polarization of a turnstile above a ground plane and the impedance of a turnstile antenna. In addition, three prototype antennas were designed and built: two single frequency fixed antennas and one dual frequency preset fan beam array. The Appendix describes the method used to establish the location of the electrical phase center. (Author)
