EQUATIONS FOR YAW-PLANE DISPERSION STUDY,

Abstract

The equations used in a recently completed yaw plane dispersion study are developed. Dispersions studied are those caused by wind, yaw displacement gyro drift and offset, roll displacement gyro drift and offset, thrust misalignment, and thrust unbalance. Assumptions included in the equations used are: (1) The pitch plane trajectory is not changed by dispersions in the yaw plane. (2) The magnitude of the velocity of the missile relative to the atmosphere is unchanged by dispersions in the yaw plane. (3) All angles associated with the missile trajectory in the yaw plane are small. Vectors and angles associated with the missile trajectory in the yaw plane are defined. The equations of motion with a wind normal to the standard missile centerline in the yaw plane are developed. The resulting equations are modified to include the other dispersion causes considered.
