TRANSVERSE WAVE PROPAGATION IN A SOLID, ELASTIC MASS CONTAINED BY AN INFINITELY LONG, RIGID CIRCULAR-CYLINDRICAL TANK,

Abstract

Dispersion equations are derived for the propagation of transverse waves along the axis of a solid, circular cylinder contained by an infintely long, circular-cylindrical tank. The tank and core are assumed welded at their interface. At least four dispersion curves are plotted for each of the first four orders and for two different values of Poisson's ratio. It is pointed out that each dispersion curve is associated with either transverse vibrations or the thickness-shear vibrations, and mode shapes are considered on this basis. (Author)
