ON THE HYDRODYNAMIC STABILITY THEORY OF PLANE AND AXISYMMETRIC PARALLEL FLOWS,

Abstract

The subject of the paper is to determine how the linearized stability theory for plane parallel flows can be applied to axisymmetric parallel flows. In the first part a compact presentation of the TollmienSchlichting-Linschen theory for plane parallel flows is given. The second part treats the stability of axisymmetric parallel flows, first for general threedimensional disturbances, and then in detail for axisymmetric disturbances. The appendix contains an extensive survey on the history of stability theory for parallel flows. (Author)
