LASER MATERIALS RESEARCH. PART I. RUBY IMPROVEMENT.

Abstract

The objective of this phase of the LASER Materials Research Program has been the improvement of the crystal quality of Verneuil (flame fusion) ruby. The study has been directed toward the over-all achievement of a steady state operation of this method of crystal growth. New approaches to the materials problems, experimental techniques, and results obtained are presented. Various subsidiary processess have been investigated with respect to a steady state operation. Useful experimental parameters relevant to the successful matching of auxiliary processes are discussed. (Author)
