SIGNAL AND NOISE PROPAGATION ON ACCELERATED BEAMS OF FINITE DIMENSIONS,

Abstract

The signal and noise propagation on a finite, accelerated electron beam in a diode space are calculated by a linearized field analysis. Approximate solutions are derived which show that the diode space behaves in general like a nonconservative transformation except for the case when the transit angle is a multiple of 2 pi. The transformation of the noise parameters S and pi is computed and the results can be applied to the design of low-noise electron guns for traveling-wave tubes. (Author)
