A NOTE ON THE STATISTICAL RELIABILITY OF DEMERIT SCORES AT THE UNITED STATES MILITARY ACADEMY,

Abstract

The adjustment of a cadet at the United States Military Academy may be evaluated, for research purposes, in terms of three major criteria. These are the following: academic grades indicating adjustment to work; aptitude ratings by peers and superiors indicating adjustment in interpersonal relationships; and demerits awarded by superiors indicating adjustment to authority. While the reliability of the aptitude ratings and academic grades have been established, the present note is concerned with the consistency and stability of demerit scores.
