ALL-WEATHER LANDING DISPLAY FOR DC-7.

Abstract

An all-weather landing display in FAA's DC-7 aircraft number N464 was installed. The purpose of the display system is to enable the captain to monitor automatic landings and to provide manual landing capability under low-visibility conditions. The report contains a description of the display system and components, modifications performed on the DC-7, operational procedures, system bench test results, ground and flight test plans. It is concluded that the DC-7 is well equipped for flight test as an all-weather display test bed, and recommended that system modifications and simplification be incorporated progressively as flight tests indicate their feasibility.
