PHILOSOPHY FOR THE DESIGN OF PRIMARY AIRCRAFT STRUCTURES WITH FIBROUS REINFORCED COMPOSITES (FRC),

Abstract

The contents of this report are presented to emphasize a possible approach to establishing useable design philosophies for utilizing Fiber Reinforced Composites for major airframe components. It outlines the general nature of these materials with accompanying thoughts for assessing the material characteristics. Advantages and disadvantages of these materials are listed, with more emphasis on areas of needed research. An attempt is made to associate these research areas with the appropriate technical field of interest.
