COLOR EXCESSES IN SIX LUNAR CRATERS ACCORDING TO ELECTROPHOTOMETRIC OBSERVATIONS,

Abstract

Lunar observations were conducted by means of an A3T-7 telescope in the city of Alma-Ata with the help of an electrophotometer. Observations were conducted during a full moon for the purpose of reducing the effect of polarization to a minimum. Observations were conducted on August 31 and September 1, 26, 27, 28 and 29 of 1958. Photometry was performed on the bottoms of 6 craters through two light filters, yellow and blue. Crater Manillius was chosen as the base for comparison. All the bottoms of craters observed were compared with it. The diameter of the aperture which defined the photometric regions was equal to approximately 3/4 the diameter of Manillius. All craters and the base regions were measured 10 times through each filter. Photometry of the base region was conducted immediately following that of each crater. Measurements of the base region and of each crater were taken several times in the course of the night. An average for each crater was taken as the result of the whole series of observations.
