ON THE FREE VIBRATION OF A THIN-WALLED CYLINDRICAL SHELL SUBJECTED TO A BENDING MOMENT,

Abstract

The effect of a bending moment on the free vibrations of a thin-walled cylindrical shell is investigated by means of a modified Donnell equation. An experimental investigation was performed in conjunction with the analysis. The results indicate that as the bending moment increases some frequency curves increase in magnitude while others decrease which is contrary to results obtained for symmetric loadings. (Author)
