THE EXPLOITATION OF THE STRENGTH OF 'WHISKERS,'

Abstract

The possibility of putting the phenomenal strength of 'whiskers' to use for structural purposes is investigated in this paper. The properties of 'whiskers' and the structural characteristics of hypothetical materials composed from them permit comparing the weights of tension structures made from whiskers with the weights of structures made from conventional materials. Reductions to one-fifth of the conventional weight appear to be feasible. (Author)
