APPLICATION OF A PSYCHOMETRIC-CLINICAL APPROACH TO PERSONNEL SELECTION FOR COUNTERINSURGENCY DUTY.

Abstract

Volunteers for assignment to counterinsurgency duty were screened by a combination of psychological tests and interview assessments. The tests included measures of aptitude, ability, personality, attitude, interests, and biographical data. In the initial phases an assessment score was obtained by combining the ratings of 3 interviewers: a psychiatrist, a clinical psychologist, and a personnel psychologist. This team rating was used both for selection of candidates and as a criterion for validating test and personal data variables. Through successive regression analyses, variables not contributing to prediction of the criterion were eliminated. The final products were 2 screening batteries that might be field-administered and scored: an officer selection battery and an airman selection battery. (Author)
