EVALUATION OF MODULAR MONITOR SYSTEM INDICATOR.
Abstract
The purpose was to conduct an evaluation of a development model of the Modular Monitor System Indicator to determine its suitability as a replacement for the Monitor Indicator Units presently in service use at FAA Flight Service Stations. Two panels, the Dial Monitor and Monophone Panel, Type FA-5115/A and VORTAC Monitor Panel, Type FA-5116/A, are presently in service use at FSS's to perform the control and monitor functions. The Modular Monitor System Indicator (MMSI) was developed by the Bendix Corporation, York Division, York, Pennsylvania. Although the developmental model Modular Monitor System Indicator is suitable as a replacement for the Monitor Indicator Units presently in service use, design changes are desired to improve the suitability of future models. The principal design changes are: (a) Reduction of the panel height from 7 inches to 5-1/4 inches and provisions for monitoring and controlling 21 NAVAID's within a console panel space of 15-3/4 inches. (b) Use of a single standard panel configuration. (c) Interchangeable NAVAID Plug-in Modules and construction of the Common Equipment in a plug-in modular form. (d) Provisions for monitoring the circuits connecting the MMSI to the NAVAID site.
