VELOCITY SENSING SWITCH.

Abstract

This is the final report on the development of a Velocity Sensing Switch by Kearfott Division for Picatinny Arsenal. The device is basically an unconstrained (along its sensing axis), viscous-damped proof mass which integrates an input acceleration and closes a switch when a preset velocity is reached. Important design considerations covered are envelope, materials used, design of automatic damping control, velocity adjustment, contacts and latch mechanism. Procedures and problems encountered during assembly and testing are discussed along with calibration methods. Design goals for future devices based on experience gained on this project are also discussed. (Author)
