THERMOCHEMISTRY OF SELECTED COMPOUNDS.

Abstract

The work includes measurements of the heats of solution of B2O3 (amorphous), B2O3 (crystalline), H3BO3 and BC13 (liquid). From these measurements the heats of formation were calculated for B2O3 (both forms) and BC13 (liquid). Attempts were made to determine a satisfactory reaction involving aluminum borohydride, the thermochemical results of which would allow a calculation of its heat of formation. A promising solution to this problem appears to be in the elevated temperature (40C) hydrolysis of this compound.
