STUDY OF PART FAILURE MODES.

Abstract

Data is presented showing the relative frequency of occurrence of the various failure modes of parts based on field data collected from certain ground electronic equipments and from individual parts tests. The data is compiled on 30 subcategories of parts, the major categories being capacitors, resistors, inductive devices, transistors, diodes, tubes, relays, switches and connectors. Two examples are given showing how to use the data in making decisions involved with the use of a multiplicity of parts to compensate for some failure modes. A discussion of categorizing failure modes is included. (Author)
