TOWARD A PSYCHOLOGICAL INDEX OF WEAPONS EFFECTIVENESS. PART 1: FIELD STUDIES

Abstract

To compare non-nuclear weapons with respect to their psychological effectiveness requires a scaling procedure which allows numbers to be assigned to these weapons or to their characteristics according to some rule. A broad working definition of the psychological index, therefore, is: A scaling procedure permitting quantitative description of the psychological effectiveness of weapons. The general form of the Psychological Index, therefore, includes measures of psychophysical, psychological, and psychosocial effects of weapons.
