CHARACTER OF CHANGES IN THE BLOOD IN PERSONS WINTERING AT THE VOSTOK STATION,

Abstract

Researches were conducted on a group of nine persons (men of average age, physically healthy); the content in the blood of hemoglobin was determined (by Sali's method) as well as the number of erythrocytes and leucocytes (computation in Goryaev's chamber); the reaction of the lowering of erythrocytes was investigated (by Panchenkov's method); the viscosity of the blood was tested (with Hess's viscosimeter); and the ratio of white blood cells was determined (by Schilling's method). The first series of investigations was conducted under normal conditions (on the ship at the time of proceeding to Antarctica) and taken as the starting norm--the others at different periods when wintering at the Vostok station.
