TROPICAL PROPAGATION RESEARCH.

Abstract

During the period of this report considerable effort was devoted to the preparation of the equipment to be used in the conduct of the field measurements, the detailed planning necessary to initiate site construction, and the preparation of a mathematical model for calculating rough terrain path loss in the absence of foliage for each of the possible propagation modes. This report presents a summary of the work completed to date. The problem of classifying the tropical environment is reviewed, and an initial classification containing five divisions is presented. Undoubtedly when the six study areas established for this phase of the program are completed the original classification system will be modified. The results of a study intended to determine accurate propagation prediction methods for the several possible propagation modes are presented with a discussion of the prediction methods. The conclusions reached are applicable to a major portion of the frequency range of interest. (Author)
