DEVELOPMENT OF INFRARED SOURCES.

Abstract

An engineering-research development program outlined in the preceding report (AD-608 530) and which involved the study of various lamp structures having minimum overall length was continued during this quarter. Some preliminary work was done on the possible use of an electromagnetic device to start these lamps on 100 volt supply. Several high intensity short-arc xenon lamps were constructed similar to those designed for use in the omnidirectional marine lantern made several years ago, but the overall length was reduced about six inches. One lamp was burned 50 hours with no observable deterioration. (Author)
