NOTES FROM AN OPEN SESSION OF THE SUBCOMMITTEE ON MICROSTRUCTURE AND FRACTOGRAPHY

Abstract

The problem of stress corrosion of austenitic stainless steel in the presence of strees and chloride ions has been under study. Crack propagation is studied by extraction replica electron fractography using oxide heat tinted in a sodium nitrate-potassium nitrate bath at 350-400 deg C, then stripped in methyl alcohol-bromine solutions.
