FOUNDATIONS OF INFORMATION THEORY,

Abstract

Since 1959 a considerable amount of American research has been published on the foundations of the theory created by Shannon in 1948. This survey is mainly restricted to extensions of Shannon's original results to communication models which incorporate new phenomena. Some attention is also being given to generalizations of the Shannon-McMillan theorem and to finite-state channels.
