CRITICAL PRESSURES FOR THE INCEPTION OF CAVITATION IN A LARGE-SCALE NUMACHI NOZZLE AS INFLUENCED BY THE AIR CONTENT OF THE WATER,

Abstract

A 12-scale model of a Numachi Nozzle 22, a venturitype nozzle with an abrupt diffuser, was tested to determine the critical pressures for the inception of cavitation as a function of the air content of the water. The test results are compared with those of Numachi. Although the absolute values of the critical pressures for cavitation inception do not agree in the two investigations, the same general trends were observed. It is believed that the observed differences are due to vortex formation in the diffuser and Reynolds-number effects. (Author)
