INFRARED COATING STUDIES.

Abstract

The report contains theoretical computations of the reststrahlen enhancement of four crystals: BaF2, LiF, CaF2 and SrF2. It previously was shown that certain film combinations were suitable not only for increasing the reststrahlen reflectance of both crystals and films but also for suppressing secondary side band reflectance peaks on the short wavelength side of the reststrahlen band. The design analysis of these film combinations was extended to show that with proper film indices the reflectance on the long wave length side of the reststrahlen band may at the same time also be substantially reduced. The reflectance curves calculated for the four above mentioned crystals are essentially rectangular in shape and thus present attractive reflection filtering possibilities for the far infrared in regions where the required absorption free filming materials are available.
