Modifications Made to the USAF Transportable Passive Satellite Communications Terminal

Abstract

The purpose of this effort was to increase the capabilities of the Transportable Passive Satellite Communications Terminal. Modifications made include a new 'X' band feed structure to permit transmission and reception on either of two orthogonal linear polarizations, adding a diplexer to permit reception of an 'X' band signal while simultaneously transmitting a 10 kw 'X' band signal, and adding single sideband and double sideband suppressed carrier modulation capability to the existing frequency modulated transmitter. In addition, a stable frequency source was installed which has a stability and accuracy of better than one part in 10 to the 9th power. Necessary frequency synthesizers were added to permit changing the transmit frequency from 7630 Mc to 8330 Mc and the antenna feed line was modified to permit operation at the new frequency of 8330 Mc.
