A DEVICE FOR REMOTELY DETERMINING THE INITIAL ACCELERATION OF VEHICLES.

Abstract

A device is described which enables the initial acceleration of vehicles from zero velocity to be easily determined. Essentially, the device consists of a pre-stretched cord, which is attached to the vehicle and which is unreeled from a rotating drum as the vehicle moves, and a timing and recording mechanism which displays a chart of the vehicles linear displacement as a function of time. Several examples are presented and the methods for reducing the data are given. (Author)
