EXPERIMENTS FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF THE ACOUSTIC IMPEDANCE OF A BURNING SOLID PROPELLANT

Abstract

The report describes progress made during a research program to measure the acoustic impedance of a burning solid propellant. Equipment needed to conduct experiments designed to yield information about the mechanism and conditions of combustion instability was fabricated. Equations were used to establish the desired boundary conditions and to serve as a basis for further investigations. The limitations and assumptions used in deriving these equations are discussed. Results of preliminary experiments using this apparatus are presented.
