NEW TYPE OF TRANSPORTERS OF GREATER LOAD LIFTING CAPACITY,

Abstract

The need in Russia to transport, by rail, machines of exceedingly heavy weight led to coupled transportation in which transported items appear to be a component part of the main carrier structure. Such rolling stock has two basic parts (possibly of cantilever framework) between which the transported object is suspended. This permits the permissible height of the load to increase. By the use of this principle, the Lugansk Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya Locomotive Plant designed and constructed in 1960-1961, in cooperation with the Voronezh bridge building plant, experimental samples of such rolling stock that were intended for the transportation of heavy-duty transformers and stators of large turbogenerators which could not be transported on flat cars because of their dimensions.
