AN IMPROVED ALTITUDE COMPUTER,

Abstract

This report describes an instrument which provides accurate corrected pressure altitude outputs. The outputs consist of a fine and coarse autosyn transmitter signal, provided to drive altitude indicators, and a Moa Gilham coded shaft position encoder output intended to provide the altitude signal for altitude reporting. A major achievement is the 20 foot accuracy obtained from -1000 to 10,000 feet and the 0.2% accuracy from 10,000 to 80,000 feet. An interchangeable cam arrangement for the static pressure defect correction permits the altitude computer to be adapted to many types of aircraft. The unit is packaged in a volume of 6 x 6 x 8 in. and weighs 10 lbs.
