ITERATIVE TECHNIQUES FOR ESTIMATING THE PARAMETERS OF THE WEIBULL AND GAMMA DENSITY FUNCTIONS.

Abstract

This thesis develops computer programs which solve for the estimators of the Weibull and Gamma density functions through iterative techniques. The maximum likelihood estimators are developed and the iterative techniques used for each density function are explained. The operating instructions for the programs are included with explanations for eliminating errors that might develop within the programs. The estimators developed for a large number of samples are included. A comparison is made between the results of each program and the results achieved by another estimation technique. Finally, there is a short discussion concerning the distributions of the estimators. (Author)
