ON THE STRUCTURE OF HYPOPHOSPHOROUS ACID. III. THE REACTION OF THE AROMATIC DIAZOCOMPOUNDS WITH PHOSPHORUS TRICHLORIDE AND SODIUM DI-ISOPROPYL-PHOSPHITE,

Abstract

The attempted reaction of PC13 with phenyl-diazonium chloride and with phenyl-diazonium nitrate demonstrated the inability of PC13 to form phosphor-organic compounds with aromatic diazo compounds. This is in contrast to analogous reactions using As and Sb salts. Similarly, no phosphor-organic compounds were obtained when Na di-isopropyl phosphite was made to react with phenyldiazonium chloride. The above reactions reveal a sharp difference between phosphorus acid and hypophosphorus acid with respect to the ability of the salts of the acids to react with diazo-derivatives. Incomplete studies of the reactions of PC13 with methylamine-HC1 and with diazomethane tend to confirm these results.
