USE OF CHERENKOV EFFECT TO GENERATE HIGH RADIO FREQUENCIES,
Abstract
In this paper the possibility is examined of utilizing the Cerenkov effect to produce an intense emission of radio waves and, in particular, waves of less than one centimeter in length. The emission of microwaves by a relativistic electron is discussed for the case of electrons moving in proximity to a dielectric. The complex Doppler effect occurring at velocities greater than the phasevelocity of light in a medium is examined. Also considered is the question of the emission from an electron and from an atom moving along the axis of a channel in a dense medium.
