SHIPBOARD VIBRATION RESEARCH IN THE U.S.A.

Abstract

A brief review of the Hull Vibration Program at the David Taylor Model Basin and of the HS-2-1 Task Group of the HS-2 Panel (Dynamic Loadings and Responses) of The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers is given. A bibliography of selected reports and papers on ship and machinery vibration is included. Of particular note is the 'Code for Shipboard Hull Vibration Measurements.' This code is intended for use in the evaluation of commercial type ships and has received the approval of the Hull Structure Committee of SNAME. It has been published by The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers as Technical and Research Bulletin No. 2-10. This publication was used as the basis of discussions on the subject of standard vibration measuring systems and procedures for shipboard hull vibration measurements, at the 2nd International Ship Structures Congress, held at Delft, the Netherlands, July 1964.
