PROBABILITY OF AIRCRAFT BUMPINESS AT VARIOUS WIND VELOCITIES,

Abstract

This report discusses the relationship between the incidence of aircraft bumpiness and wind velocity in clouds and beyond clouds. It is established that with the increase in wind velocity in the upper part of the troposphere the probability of aircraft bumpiness increases. In the lower layer of the atmosphere a rise in probability of bumpiness with an increase in wind velocity was observed only when flying in clouds. Maximum effect on the rise in probability of bumping is exerted not by a rise in wind velocity, but by the presence of clouds in the atmosphere.
