THE APPLICATION OF MAGNETORESISTANCE TO HIGH-FREQUENCY MAGNETOMETERS,

Abstract

This report describes the magnetoresistance properties of evaporated permalloy films and their application to magnetometers with high frequency response. Response times of the order of nanoseconds are possible while sensitivities may be varied greatly by choice of composition, magnetic bias or eddy-current field shunts. The resistance variation with direction of magnetization is also observed with a.c. currents as high as x-band. It is concluded therefore that an a.c. magneto-resistive bridge (bridge frequency of the order of 1 GC) would provide a suitable magnetometer in the presence of strong electric fields or other disturbances.
