EVALUATION OF AERIAL SURVEY METER V-780,

Abstract

This report describes a field evaluation of preproduction models of OCDM V-780 radiological survey instruments developed for aerial measurement of ground dose rate. Dose rates were measured by ground-survey teams along predetermined paths' these measurements were compared with corresponding measurements taken by aerial-survey teams. Correlation between the aerialand ground-survey instrument readings varied up to factors of 10 to 1. The conclusion drawn from this test is that this instrument must undergo a major revision for civil defense application, both in basic design and in details of packaging and component selection. To the extent that the evaluation of the V-780 has been conclusive, the tests conducted in Project 70.1 were successful. (Author)
