OCCURENCE AND DISTRIBUTION OF CATECHOLAMINES IN THE FISH BRAIN,
Abstract
Relatively high amounts of catecholamines were found in the brains of an elasmobranch, Squalus acanthias and a teleost, Gadus callarias. Only small quantities could be demonstrated in the brain of a cyclostome, Myxine glutinosa. Both adrenaline and noradrenaline occurred in the brains of Squalus and of Gadus although noradrenaline was predominant. A characteristic distribution of the catecholamines in the brain of Squalus was observed. The highest amount of noradrenaline was found in the diencephalon, hypothalamus, and hypophysis, while the crebellum contained only very small quantities. (Author)
