LAP-LIST ASSEMBLY PROGRAMMING SYSTEM.

Abstract

LAP consists of four functional packages which are computer programs that run on the computer to allow execution of programs written in the LAP language. First, the LAP assembly program will process a source program to produce an object program for a nonexistent list-processing machine. Second, the LAP processor simulates the missing hardware and allows the program to be executed on the existing computer. Third, the machine language assembly program assembles those subprograms written in the language of the existing hardware. Fourth, the LAP controlling tape system is the overall 'master control' to the other functions. The system is capable of executive control over a program consisting of list manipulative macro-instructions and perhaps some subprograms consisting of machine language instructions. These four functional, related pieces of the LAP system 'marry' the language to the computer producing a 'LAP machine'. This machine is ready to aid the researcher in his work.
